Sustainable Fashion and Grammy Awards
Impactful events such as the Grammys draw worldwide attention and can influence us all. Celebrities are drawing media coverage and, through their following on social media, attracting great public interest. Hence, drive inspiration. Chances are you’ve been affected positively by something a celebrity did or said, the same way you might have tried to copycat a celebrity style.

Celebrities take on a sustainable red carpet
Do you remember the iconic tutu skirt Carrie Bradshaw wore during the opening credits of Sex and the City? The $5 tutu was sold for $52,000, more than six times its estimate on Julien’s auction block “Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” next to Audrey Hepburn or Princess Diana outfits on Jan. 18, 2024.

We will discuss this: celebrities share responsibility sustainably, especially to build a more sustainable red carpet.

At the Grammy Awards, celebrities were sporting 2024 spring’s biggest trend: sheer gowns. It was a night of pure dazzling and avant-garde fashion, where celebrities made bold statements with glamorous outfits and fashion-forward gowns without visible sustainable statements.

Grammy Awards: a potential sustainable red carpet for luxury fashion brands
According to Statista, in 2023, 12.4 million Americans watched the Grammy Awards ceremony. This figure shows an increase from the previous year but still represents the third-smallest TV audience in the history of the broadcast. Nevertheless, news about the Grammys is all over the media and the 2.6 million followers of the Grammys on Instagram, plus each nominated artist’s social media presence, proves our point. Millions of people worldwide, directly or indirectly, get the message.

The Grammys also have an app, compilations on stores and streaming services, YouTube, community bloggers, live streaming, Twitter and Facebook. The Grammy’s reach combined is, at the least, interesting. In 2023, the Grammys got 800K+ mentions. We also found that the #1 source of Grammy’s mentions last year was Pinterest. The top post by engagement was a TikTok video with comments on celebrity outfits. Thus, the ceremony can be the perfect stage for sustainable fashion.

The difference between slow fashion and sustainable fashion
The Slow Fashion Movement is about slowing down and choosing consciously. We empower and educate fashion consumers for a sustainable future.

Sustainable fashion encompasses several processes and practices to reduce the social and environmental impact of the fashion industry. It is fashion that is ethically made and environmentally friendly.

Slow fashion is a sustainable fashion practice, opposite to fast fashion and related to the slow movement, advocating for respectful practices in textile and clothing production, distribution and commerce, processing people, the environment and animals.

Why slow fashion matters?
Current data show that fashion is the second-highest polluting industry in the world producing 4% of total global greenhouse gas emissions, producing 20% of global freshwater pollution.
